Ah yes, that's it exactly! Thank you.

I was looking at readline(3), which doesn't have complete-into-braces.
Wow, there are a bunch of other completions, too!
dynamic-complete-history is useful, for instance. I had to bind it to
a different key since my window manager grabs M-TAB.
