still using HTTPS, you just want the client to behave differently. I don't
know if this warrants a new protocol. I do wish this was standardized myself
(WebDAV is basically stillborn without it, which is a shame) but the info
could just as easily be communicated back to the client with a special HTTP
header or even just a file telling the client what to do (a la robots.txt).
No proxy server breakage that way.

Maybe search for words like 'protocol handler'. Mozilla and IE both seem to
use this terminology.
