Books won't help you. Pick a task, do your best to clumsily write a
script. When it doesn't work, post back here and we'll help you figure out
what you did wrong.
The problem with books in your situation is that it's impossible for the
books to know where your dark corners are. Best way to learn is to make
mistakes.
