else setup, for better or worse.

Run mailq and see if things are clogged up. Check root's mailbox if no
alias was set prior... the last few emails from cron can be quite revealing.

Perhaps also ntpd here, with a look at ntpq -p if it already is.
I like to see output of ifconfig -a to ascertain the network connections.
