Thanks for all the great suggestions!

I forgot to mention that the computer was a laptop, which prohibits
installing another hard drive.

I went with the direct ethernet connection (no crossover needed--nice)
and used WinSCP from the Windows box. Got about 5MB/sec transfer rate,
which seemed quite reasonable. tar/netcat would've been faster, but I
didn't want to go through the cygwin install.
