I attended the first meeting of the Seattle Linux Group back in April
1993. It was in a weird maze of wood-paneled rooms tucked inside an
ancient parking garage on 8th Avenue in downtown Seattle. I think the
building has since been torn down and replaced with some modern
hotel/office/condo development.
Several people brought in their computers and we booted up a couple of
different installations. I think I recall Steve Herber showing off
his dual monitor X setup (in black-orange monochrome?).
I seem to recall that the mailing list was organized by publicizing it
on one of the early Linux usenet groups. That would have been a
little bit before the first meeting, and it was used to coordinate the
get-together.
At the meeting, Phil brought up the topic of starting a magazine to
promote Linux and give it a bit more legitimacy. I was an early
subscriber. I had issue number 1, but somebody borrowed it from me
and it got lost.
