Last I installed a minimum CentOS server install from CD, I needed 4
of the 6 cds (The only two unused were 4 and 6, IIRC). I'd say it's
not worth the savings to skip those two, especially since it's been
over six weeks and I might be mistaken about which disks they were.)
Another interesting possibility that I've used to great effect -
download the DVD image, save it to the hard drive on another computer.
Mount the image, then share the mount point over NFS. Use the network
install ISO to burn a netboot cd, choose the "NFS" option, install
from the DVD image. This method is by far the fastest - faster than
installing from a local DVD, even (with gigabit ethernet, anyway.)
Transfer speeds over fast disk and gigabit ethernet are evidently
higher than transfer speeds from a DVD optical drive.
