For those who run name servers and haven't yet noticed, the db.cache
file which defines the root name servers changed November 1, 2007.

I found out (not from the mailing list, which would be too easy and
too correct) yesterday when Kitsap Bank's web site vanished for users
of several name servers including ours.

The Bank rose like a phoenix (for our name server users) immediately
after I updated the file. (L.ROOT-SERVERS.NET down in Marina del Rey
changed IPs.) But I think that was a side effect of restarting the
name servers, thus tossing out the cache, not from the db.cache update
itself. It appears that the bank tried to switch name service
providers, and wasn't overwhelmingly successful. Following is from a
failed lookup, which implies it will be tomorrow before that server
catches up:

;; AUTHORITY SECTION:
kitsapbank.com. 54544	IN	NS	ns1.pendingrenewaldeletion.com.
kitsapbank.com. 54544	IN	NS	ns2.pendingrenewaldeletion.com.

The bank is still missing to users of DNS from minor players like
Qwest and MSN.

Other changes are happening soon, with the IPv6 rollout next step
(IPv6 implies more DNS queries will be done with TCP rather than UDP--
some firewall adjustments might well be needed).
