I use Firefox primarily on Mac OS X 10.4.xx, averaging between 15 and 20
tabs open, mostly to sites with documentation, and rarely with anything
running flash or other eye-candy for any length of time.
Firefox is normally at the top of the memory usage, 190.79 Real memory in
the Activity Monitor as I type this, and it's been running for a couple of
days. I probably restart it a couple of times a week when things start
getting sluggish (Mac Mini PPC with 1GB RAM).
My wife has a similar machine, and never restarts Firefox until it displays
the twirling beachball of death, requiring a Force Quit.
I usually have Firefox and Safari open, using Safari primarily to test web
sites as anonymous or unpriviledged users when I'm working Plone sites to
check out security behaviour. The current version of Safari on OS X
10.4.11 has been running for about two weeks on my desktop machine, and is
using 52.68MB Real memory with 4 tabs open.
I can't talk about FF under Windows as I don't have Windows running on
anything here. I think I have the original hard drive for a ThinkPad 600
that I used for 8 years with Linux, but would be hard pressed to find it.
