Just a nitpick. Publically-held companies are legally bound to follow
their mission statement. If that mission statement is "funnel all assets
to the company officers so they can retire in total comfort", and you as a
shareholder bought shares under that mission statement, and they actually
do that, you have no grounds for a shareholder lawsuit.

Intel's mission statement could potentially be read that way (the maximize
shareholder value thing, not the liquidate thing), but it'd be a stretch:

"Delight our customers, employees, and shareholders by relentlessly
delivering the platform and technology advancements that become essential to
the way we work and live."

I suspect their ordering of "customers, employees, and shareholders" is
subtle but intentional.

Of course, IANAL.
