[SLL] Say, does CentOS have an accessible /etc/apt/sources.list like thing I can actually look at?

Redhat difficult? I think you have been sniffing the crazy glue. 
Have you ever tried RHEL? I haven't found it anymore difficult than any other distro I've tried. 
If you don't want to pay then use Fedora!! I just installed it on a brand new Dell Vostro 1500
Notebook. Everything works. No muss no fuss.
