[SLL] Anybody know if it's possible to change the date format in Thunderbird?

I've got my days first, then month, and then year, and it drive me nuts. 
  Why can't Americans get sense and use YY/MM/DD so it looks proper for 
a sort.  I can't find a configuration point to change it though. 
Anybody have any thoughts?
