This is at least semi-off-topic, but I hope has some merit anyway; after
all, it is at least tangentially related to Linux in that Cory Doctorow is a
fellow of EFF and a champion of Creative Commons, things near and dear to
Penguinistas' hearts.

Doctorow has written a book I think y'all ought to read. It's called
_Little Brother_; it's about what happens after they set off a bomb in San
Francisco and things to to brown and squishy. I've not read it yet; it
doesn't officially hit the shelves for another hour, but I've three powerful
recommendations for it. One is a good and trusted friend, who got an
advance copy; the second is blogger/author John Scalzi, an up-and-comer I've
been following, and the third is no less than Neil Gaiman.

What Cory has done here is tell us how badly it can go south, *and how to go
about starting to fix it*, in the form of a science fiction thriller. Now,
I know you guys. This book is aimed straight at you. And your kids, if you
have any.

There won't be a Powells link yet because it's not officially out, so I'll
just point you at Scalzi's blog entry, and let that suffice...

Go. Read. Do what's needful.

And if you feel the need to, see me after class. Further deponent sayeth
not.
