Uh, I was not aware that Intel put out any core2duo chips that weren't
64bit.  Maybe your bios vendor is screwing you here.  Those chips are
64bit and should handle a 64bit OS just fine.

You could also try Fedora which should just work with that amount of
ram, but try a Live image first.
