In fact, you only want a 64bit kernel. You /want/ the 32bit userland
as it's far faster than the 64bit stuff. The only reason 64bit runs
faster on x86_64 is that pure x86 is so register starved that by having
the extra registers on x86_64 outweighs the other slowdowns you get
from running 64bit userland software. It's just too bad that x86 is
such a prevalent arch as it gets many things clearly wrong, but is the
defacto "standard" and anything that is different is seen as odd or
wrong, but may in fact be far more correct.
