[SLL] Wifi bridging

I have a number of servers sitting around here inactive, mostly because my
current home network is wifi and servers don't tend to have wifi. I also
have a spare WRT54GL. I don't *think* the stock firmware will allow you to
put the wireless side into client mode and use the switch on the back to
connect one's wired clients to the existing wireless net. And besides, I'm
feeling a bit brave, especially since there seem to be copious de-bricking
instructions floating about the net.

So.

What's the best firmware to load to make a bridge of my WRT54GL? And how's
the best way to set up my backend wired network? Do I need to use a switch
as a concentrator so the router is only trying to route one port? or is
that a Bad Idea?

The other thing I was wondering about was, there seem to be a plethora of
wireless PCMCIA cards out there, but not too many of them Linux-compatible,
at least not without resorting to ndiswrapper... any recommendations?
