you might want to use a customized search to look or verify
for vulnerabilities. just type in the vendor or the application
name at:

http://sve.cse.googlepages.com/cse.html


the OS might share the same vulnerability if the application
in question is cross-platform. i think nowadays, vulnerabilities
is just one thing to consider. now you have to consider if the
software supports vulnerability disclosure, automatic updates,
documentation for security best practices, SLA for bugfixes,
security-related features, among others.
