[SLL] uname -i and uname -p both "unknown" on ubuntu?

Okay I found something in Launchpad (closed bug 111863) that indicates
this is a typical configuration with a Linux Kernel, and uses various
excuses, including that it states it should say "unknown" for kernels
which do not make the information naturally clear, and that the -i and
-p options are not POSIX.  Here is the full link:
