I ended up buying just one Meraki Mini ($49) which work great.
They encourage larger networks which I understand since they
provide all sorts of management tools through Meraki
Dashboard (usage per client, bandwidth limits, etc.). They are
working on adding a "monetize" option if you want to become a
small ISP without dealing with all the billing. I'm considering
ways to expand and maybe get neighbors in on it

It is a 802.11b/g AP, by the way. Subjectively performance
seems better than my old and ailing Linksys device.
