Here's a run down of what I've used or learn about for this task...

g4u is probably my favorite. partimage is getting rather stale and
doesn't support whole-disk imaging or LVM2.
I've also used dd+netcat to image/clone systems over the network (p2v).
That works pretty well on Gbit. It helps to zero-fill your disk paritions.
