Let me borrow an idea from an old book on VW repair. The suggestion for engine
overhaul was to get a box of zip-lock bags and a marking pen. Put each set
of "things" (that go together) in a bag and write a number on it, increasing
the number each time. When you go to put it back together, you start with the
highest numbered bag.
I did this and it worked like a charm. I also discovered every time I
overhauled a VW engine not using this method I ended up with a lot of "extra"
parts. :-)
