I had this same problem on my old dell laptop.  The CPU was running  
~20 degrees hotter then when it was new, and the fan was constantly  
screaming.  I fixed it by taking the whole thing apart, and blowing a  
metric ton of dust out of the heat syncs and fans.  My air vents  
looked clean from the outside too, BTW.
