No. 5.1 should have the right driver. This is only for a few months.

Until then, it's just 2 commands. Nothing to compile:

# cp -a /lib/modules/<old-kernel>/updates/ /lib/modules/<new-kernel>/updates/
# mkinitrd -v -f /boot/<new-kernel>.img <new-kernel>
