Fortunately, I can say with total assurance that my horror stories have no  
connection with LVM. I have not used it.

My doubts come from something I read a while ago about unpleasant  
consequences following a failure, iirc a disk failure in a multi-disk  
array under LVM. (Afaik, it was not RAID.) The impression I got (perhaps  
wrong) was that "pieces" of files might be split between two disks. Then,  
that could be a misunderstanding. Until I'd read that, LVM looked good.  
Please don't take my comments too seriously! My knowledge is quite  
"uneven", being newbie level* in more than a few details, but others  
coming from having been a midnight hacker in 1960.
*Such as, how do I set up Knoppix (and maybe even Ubuntu?) for DSL (eth0:)  
with a fixed IP? Pretty basic, I know, but I'd have to study, some. (Puppy  
Linux has a splendid script that made it extremely easy.)
