[SLL] firefox using too much memory

firefox continues to grow and use a lot of memory.

I have only a few simple html (no flash, no javascript, no java) pages 
open and it is using over 100 MB. (One of the reasons, why I continue to 
use lynx and elinks.)

I don't report version of firefox here as I have had this problem with 
many firefox versions.

What do you all do to tame firefox? Any firefox setting for this?

I guess I could use ulimit before starting firefox. Anyone doing that?

On a related note, on another system that has Macromedia flash, my firefox 
gets to unbearable 1.2 GB making the Ubuntu system unusable. Anyone have 
good success with open source flash alternative plugin in firefox?
