I read this one and by the time i got to the end i
felt like, he makes a couple of good points but he
really doesn't get it. The implication that Linux is
broken for instance, is in my opinion way off. Maybe
i am misguided but isn't the whole point that you CAN
"roll your own". Google isn't fixing anything because
there is nothing to fix. Google like Redhat builds its
own Linux. The beauty of it,in my opinion, is that
there is so much variety, so many different flavors,
anyone anywhere can build their own. I guess if your
into cut and paste software then it has no appeal, but
has anyone compiled a list of all the devices that run
a Linux kernel? No progress ? I see new devices coming
out everyday that run linux. Why does Microsoft spend
so much time and effort trying to discredit Linux if
it presents no threat? The biggest problem Linux has
is the people who take but give nothing back. The
"developers" who want to make a buck off it without
contributing to it. People want to use it but not have
to release their code. Linux can be whatever you want
it to be, do whatever you want it to do. Want some new
functionality?Write the code and add it in. Does linux
have flaws? Sure. What doesn't? Windows? Mac? No they
have flaws too. The difference is that anyone,
anywhere can fix the flaws in Linux. If people could
do that with Microsoft or Apple then Linux wouldn't be
here.
