Actually, if you want a neat GUI editor, check out nedit.  Dan Wilder put me
on to this some years ago... the specialty thing it does that I haven't seen
anyone else do, is neatly and elegantly move moused-over columns of text.  

Why haven't I convereted completely?  Because I still do most of my work in
xterms, either ssh'ed into something or using screen or both.  I *could*
call an external editor and send it back to my local desktop, but that's
slow and unwieldy.  Much prefer a good pure-text editor.  As has been said,
vi is arcane, but once you wrap your brain around it, it works well.  Emacs
in text mode can be even more arcane than that, but it handles large blocks
of formatted or semi-formatted text well, without too much thinking about
it, and as Andy Rooney says, I like that.  

And besides, I'm getting old and set in my ways.
