Hey, now, them's fightin' words.  :)

Actually?  Ubuntu is for folks who have neither time nor inclination to
fight with their systems.  Some folks (Gentoo) enjoy a good tussle.  I
don't.  I want it to Just Work, and I realize there are a few concessions to
purism that have to be made occasionally for that to happen... at least
until certain hardware vendors get their glass navels installed.  

I've run across a few places where Ubuntu doesn't actually Just Work, but
I've found in those situations that either Puppy or Debian will serve just
fine... of course, there are a few teeny little systems for which OpenBSD is
about all that'll fit these days.  (<128mb...  I think Open will boot down
to what, 12MB?  I know it'll go in 16.)
