[SLL] Open Source (or cheap) virus scanners?

A friend of mine elsecommunity is wondering if there are any server-side
virus scanners out there that don't cost an arm and a leg; the cheapest he's
seen is $800. Is this simply a cost he's going to have to deal with, or is
there something out there where you can get an open-source engine and a
subscription to a database for not a heck of a lot?
Yeah, I know, in a perfect world we wouldn't have to deal with OS's that get
that, but perhaps if I can point him at something that'll shoehorn in an
open source OS he can convince his company (not here in the Sound) to come
away from the Dark Side.... eventually.... same reason Emacs works on
Windows....
