I've only tried reading flash cards on two types of devices, a PCMCIA
adapter for the SmartMedia cards from my Olympus digital camera, and a
couple of USB readers for SmartMedia and Compact Flash that I use with my
PowerMac G4 running OS X. My first tests of the CompactFlash reader were
with a flash card we had made for a LRP style router, and I could see all
the Linux files on it. I presume that I could write files as well.
The PCMCIA adapter treats the SmartMedia cards as a standard IDE hard
drive, and I added the appropriate configuration to my AMD automounter
files so that it's /dev/hde (something or other). The laptop's off-line
now so I can't check the details now.
